Overview SpaceX is seeking a Security Software Engineer to join the Security department to help protect and drive the SpaceX mission. Information drives our business and we must protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and processes across the enterprise. This role will focus on the behind the scenes technologies that ensure our networks and systems are up to industry and SpaceX standards of information security, and on providing high-criticality and high-risk services with security in mind. The role will partner with various application development and customer groups across SpaceX to identify and remediate emerging vulnerabilities. SECURITY SOFTWARE ENGINEER SpaceX is actively developing technologies to enable human life on Mars and to support a future of exploration. Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain technology solutions and systems that provide security for SpaceX systems, networks, and data. This includes authentication and identity services, identity lifecycle management, network security systems, application level security controls, cloud deployment security policy enforcement, centralized configuration management, monitoring, and related services. Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for these solutions, maintain documentation, and advise others on underlying technologies and operation. Collaborate with security and IT teams to identify threats and problem areas, using feedback to strengthen tools and technologies. Deliver improvements that reduce risk and improve secure software deployments across SpaceX. Create scalable, repeatable, maintainable, and secure solutions. Work with cross-functional teams including information security, physical security, IT, HR, legal, software, and others. Basic Qualifications Bachelor9;s degree in computer science or another STEM discipline; OR 2+ years of professional experience in security software development in lieu of a degree Experience with Python, Go, C#, or Rust Experience designing and implementing security solutions for operating systems, distributed systems, or other enterprise/large-scale infrastructure Preferred Skills and Experience Experience with secure code development practices Experience with Linux, Windows, and Mac system internals Proficient experience with Python, Go, C#, or Rust Strong knowledge of PKI environments and related technologies Experience with SAML, OIDC, and OAuth Experience with hardware security modules (TPMs, HSMs) Fundamental understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP) Experience navigating large, complex systems Familiarity with developing web-based APIs, HTTP-RPC, and REST Familiarity with enterprise security controls and best practices for Windows, Linux, and Mac Strong problem-solving skills and ability to determine root causes Familiarity with macOS and Windows code-signing and deployment of enterprise applications Additional Requirements Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed This role requires onsite work; hybrid or remote work will not be considered Compensation and Benefits Pay range: Security Engineer/Level I: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year Security Engineer/Level II: $145,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge, education, and experience. Base salary is part of a total rewards package including potential stock, bonuses, and other benefits (medical, vision, dental, 401(k), disability, life insurance, parental leave, paid time off, etc.).
