Job Description Summary The Lab Point of Care Coordinator provides technical resources and daily directions to phlebotomists, nurses, and other healthcare colleagues regarding laboratory policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. The Lab Point of Care Coordinator assures quality testing and accurate test performance through operator training, competency assessment, equipment monitoring, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, quality control review and proficiency testing at flagship hospital and day rehab locations. Job Description The Lab Point of Care Coordinator (POCC) will: Provides technical oversight for Point of Care testing performed throughout Shirley Ryan AbilityLab flagship and day rehab locations to meet/exceed accreditation standards. Ensure that the test systems are properly functioning. Maintains, troubleshoots and takes corrective action with equipment as needed. Works with nursing, physicians, employees and management as needed to ensure Point of Care testing is running efficiently and effectively. Develops and maintains teaching/training materials. Coordinate competency assessment. Develop and maintain competency assessment materials. Oversight of CLIA certificates/waivers at flagship hospital and day rehab locations. Provide primary support for on-site inspections and surveys. Participate in inspection readiness and tracer activities. Assist with the development, maintenance and control of laboratory policies and procedures. Review quality control for problem identification and troubleshooting. Assist with maintaining inventory and supplies for the Point of Care testing. Reporting Relationships Reports directly to the Manager of Laboratory Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of two years’ experience in clinical laboratory. Certified MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist) or MLT (Medical Laboratory Technician) preferred. Demonstrated strong organizational skills with ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team. Strong attention to detail. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of quality control, quality assurance principles and proficiency testing procedures. Demonstrated skill with electronic medical record and laboratory information system Knowledge of The Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments regulations related to work area Demonstrated leadership skills. Working Conditions Normal laboratory environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
