Role:

The Commercial Credit Analyst is responsible for collecting, inputting, and analyzing financial and credit data for current and prospective borrowers. This role requires a solid understanding of credit principles, financial analysis, and lending practices related to Commercial Real Estate (CRE) and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) loans. The analyst also serves as a key liaison for member inquiries, supports business services operations, and ensures compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.

The annual salary range for this position is: $73,486.81-110,230.21

Location: Our headquarters are based in Syracuse, NY. We work in a Hybrid Model requiring a minimum of 5 days in office per month.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

25% Financial Information Analysis:

- Collect financial data from members, internal systems, and third-party sources.

- Use credit analysis tools and database software to input data, build spreadsheets, and evaluate financial statements and tax returns.

- Maintain accurate borrower and loan records.

- Perform cash flow analyses and produce high-quality credit memos for review.

- Identify and resolve exceptions to credit policies and procedures.

- Assess new loan requests and recommend appropriate risk ratings.

25% Collaboration & Documentation:

- Partner with Commercial Loan Officers (LOs) and team members to streamline credit processes.

- Communicate with members and LOs to clarify financial data and obtain missing documentation.

- Notify LOs when updated financials are required for commercial accounts.

- Follow quality control protocols to ensure complete and accurate documentation.

- Prepare presentations for annual reviews of non-complex credit relationships and propose risk ratings.

20% Customer & Loan Officer Liaison:

- Act as the primary point of contact for members and LOs.

- Resolve complex issues and coordinate with internal departments to address business-critical matters.

- Respond to inquiries and complaints from internal and external stakeholders.

- Maintain working knowledge of cash management products and services.

15% Construction Draw Control:

- Oversee and document construction draw requests in coordination with LOs.

- Conduct on-site inspections of real estate collateral.

10% Credit Searches:

- Conduct credit investigations to evaluate member or prospect creditworthiness.

- Research UCC filings to confirm collateral positioning and lien status.

- Analyze collateral to ensure compliance with loan terms and internal policy.

5% Regulatory Compliance:

- Adhere to all applicable regulations and internal policies, including Fair Lending and non-discrimination standards.

- Perform all other duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience:

3 to 5 years of experience in commercial credit analysis, financial statement review, or loan underwriting.

Preferred backgrounds include:

- Commercial banking or credit union lending

- Public accounting or financial consulting

- Real estate finance or portfolio management

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration

Equivalent certifications may be considered, such as:

Certified Credit Analyst (CCA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level I or higher, or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) coursework.

Interpersonal Skills:

Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

Other Skills:

- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and financial analysis software.

- Ability to interpret financial ratios, amortization schedules, and loan structures.

- Familiarity with proprietary credit union systems is a plus.
