Nurse Aide

Provides for personal hygiene care: complete or partial bath, back care, oral hygiene, combing hair, shaving, toileting, dressing resident, changing bed linen and other general care. Participates in diversional and planned activities. Transports residents using wheelchairs, mechanical lifts or assists walking. Performs routine treatment procedures: application of appliances for heat/cold, routine and minor skin care treatments. Turns and repositions residents in bed, alone, or with assistance. Takes and/or records temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, and intake/output. Maintains elimination, restraint and appetite records. Reports variations. Achieves electronic medical records. Prepares residents for meals, serves and removes food trays, feeds residents. AM care/grooming, transportation to dining room. Answers resident call bells, anticipates resident needs, makes rounds. Assists residents with handling/care clothing and personal property. Transports resident to units and other areas of St. Paul’s. Provides for resident’s activities and comfort according to tolerance levels. Assists nurses in treatment and collection and transport of specimens. Reports residents’ condition/behavior changes or incidents. Participates in care plans. Ensures bedside articles and call bell are reachable/available. Provides for resident privacy. Maintains interpersonal relationships with residents assuring confidentiality. Maintains safe environment cleaning and reporting out of order equipment and problems to Nurse Manager, handling clean and dirty linen, complete cleaning assignments and written tasks of unit and storage of supplies. Takes laundry and trash to designated areas. Attends in service education programs. Practices efficient use of supplies and linen. Responsible for cleaning up spills of food/fluids. Confidentiality critical.
Requirements : High school or foreign equivalent. Willing to complete state approved Nurse Aide training course and be deemed competent to be placed on the PA Nurse Aide registry within 4 months from date of hire. Willing to work with elderly; to be pleasant, cheerful, tactful, courteous when handling residents and/or families; to cooperate with other personnel; to treat resident’s information confidential; to be constantly standing and walking, often in a dynamic manner. Must be able to lift, turn and reposition residents both alone and with assistance with and without the use of mechanical devices. Able to assist others with lifting, turning and repositioning residents both with and without the use of mechanical devices. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat of harm to themselves, others or property.
