The Opportunity The
Pharmacist Lab Manager
is a licensed pharmacist responsible for
day-to-day operations of our non-sterile compounding lab
while also providing
backup support for overall pharmacy management
. 75–80% of your time:
Overseeing compounding operations (hazardous & non-hazardous). 20–25% of your time:
Supporting and stepping into pharmacy management when needed. This role reports directly to the
Pharmacy Manager
and receives functional guidance from the
Lead Lab Manager
, who sets lab standards and best practices enterprise-wide. When the Pharmacy Manager is out, you will assume full responsibility for the pharmacy to ensure seamless operations.
What You’ll Do
Laboratory Operations (Primary Focus) Lead daily non-sterile compounding activities in compliance with
USP
and
USP
. Supervise and mentor pharmacy technicians assigned to the lab. Approve formulations, master batch records, and beyond-use dating decisions. Enforce safety protocols (PPE, hazardous drug handling). Maintain documentation, audit readiness, and lab cleanliness. Manage inventory levels and ensure accurate controlled-substance records. Train and assess competency of lab staff.
Pharmacy Operations Support Act as
backup to Pharmacy Manager
, assuming decision-making authority when needed. Verify prescriptions and oversee dispensing. Support workflow optimization and staff coordination. Contribute to pharmacy-wide
quality initiatives and process improvements
. Collaborate on scheduling and staffing decisions.
Cross-Location & Matrix Collaboration Partner with the
Lead Lab Manager
, who leads lab standards across all MedRock sites. Implement enterprise-wide procedures, best practices, and innovations. Report lab performance metrics to both Pharmacy Manager and Lead Lab Manager. Share knowledge with peer Lab Managers across locations.
Compliance & Quality Assurance Ensure compliance with all compounding regulations and accreditation standards. Conduct
quarterly internal audits
and prepare for regulatory inspections. Lead error investigations and corrective actions. Stay current with compounding regulations and industry trends.
Leadership & Team Development Directly supervise lab staff with daily coaching and feedback. Foster a culture of
teamwork, accuracy, and accountability
. Serve as subject matter expert on compounding and compliance. Align lab staff training with overall pharmacy objectives.
What We’re Looking For
Key Competencies Licensed pharmacist with
expertise in non-sterile compounding
. Strong knowledge of
USP
and
standards. Effective leader and mentor with excellent communication skills. Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to
compliance and patient safety
. Adaptable and collaborative, able to step into broader leadership when needed.
Qualifications Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSPharm). Active, unrestricted
Florida pharmacist license
(with willingness to expand licensure as MedRock grows). 3+ years pharmacy practice experience
including non-sterile compounding. Supervisory or leadership experience (preferred in compounding environment).
