A Japan/Asia-focused Venture Capital fund in the San Francisco Bay Area is seeking a Director to play a key role in shaping and growing our corporate venture practice. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of venture investing, corporate strategy, and innovation, helping bridge the U.S. and Japan startup ecosystems.
We are open to candidates with backgrounds in
corporate venture investing, strategy consulting, corporate development, or operations
who can bring a blend of strategic thinking, executional ability, and cross-border experience.
Fluency in Japanese
is required and this position involves travel to Japan a few times a year.
What You’ll Do
Shape Strategy : Contribute to the development of our CVC strategy, investment theses, and new business initiatives with our corporate partners.
Build Ecosystems : Support partnerships between startups, portfolio companies, and our Japanese corporate LPs; foster cross-border collaboration and innovation.
Operate & Execute : Depending on skillset, take ownership of internal projects, portfolio support, fundraising, or business development initiatives.
Represent the Firm : Act as a bridge between Silicon Valley and Japan, engaging with entrepreneurs, corporate partners, and the broader innovation community.
Invest & Partner : Source, evaluate, and support venture investments, or drive corporate development initiatives depending on your background.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; STEM or MBA preferred.
5–10 years of relevant experience in one or more of the following:
Venture capital or corporate venture investing
Fund Operations
Corporate development, innovation, or business operations (Fortune 500 or high-growth company)
Strong analytical skills (financial modeling, strategic analysis) and ability to communicate with executives.
Business-level fluency in Japanese required.
Experience working with or for Japanese corporates is a plus.
