Job Description Salary: $26.34/hour Job Title Street Maintenance III Reports To Street Operations Supervisor Positions Supervised
STREET MAINTENANCE IIIs role within the big picture of the Citys overall success.
The Street Maintenance III position performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, modification, and maintenance of municipal streets, rights-of-way, sidewalks, stormwater systems, and signage. This role involves operating heavy equipment and specialized vehicles, fabricating and installing street signs, setting up safe traffic control zones, and performing seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal.
Education and Experience An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Education HS_GED Experience Two years of previous relevant work experience is required. This position is subject to 24/7 emergency call-out, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Certifications Class A Commercial Driver's License within one year probation period Licensing Residency IL: Madison County, Jersey County, St. Clair County, Macoupin County, MO: St. Louis County, St. Charles County
STREET MAINTENANCE III functions include but are not limited to the following.
Sign Fabrication and Installation: Use specialized computer software and equipment to design, cut, produce, and install street signs. Traffic Control and Work Zone Safety: Set up compliant traffic control zones using cones, barricades, signage, and arrow boards. Direct traffic safely using radios and stop/slow paddles. Street Resurfacing and Pothole Repair: Operate patching trucks, hot boxes, paving machines, and asphalt rollers to repair potholes and resurface streets. Use cold patch when necessary. Street Cleaning and Leaf Removal: Operate street sweepers and leaf vacuums to remove debris and leaves from roadways, improving appearance and preventing storm drain blockages. Snow and Ice Removal: Operate plow trucks, salt spreaders, and front-end loaders to clear streets and intersections during winter weather. Sidewalk, ROW, and Guardrail Maintenance: Assist in repair and maintenance of sidewalks, guardrails, and rights-of-way to ensure pedestrian and motorist safety. Sign Shop and Barricade Management: Maintain and update barricade inventory and ensure proper documentation of all traffic control devices issued and returned.
The individual in this role is expected to contribute to the team's efforts by completing other related tasks as needed.

Knowledge of city street systems, signage standards, and maintenance practices. Knowledge of MUTCD regulations and safe work zone setup procedures. Knowledge of safety procedures for excavation, confined spaces, traffic control, and hazardous materials. Skill in using and maintaining specialized tools, vehicles, and equipment for street repair, sign creation, and seasonal operations. Skill in reading and interpreting work orders, plans, and safety instructions. Skill in using computers and software for GIS and sign production. Ability to operate heavy equipment and specialized vehicles safely and efficiently. Ability to establish and maintain safe and compliant work zones. Ability to work in varying weather conditions and respond to emergencies when needed.
