General Function
Responsible for processing mail, Western Union orders, utility bills, cashing checks, selling money orders, and collecting dry cleaning orders for customers. Maintain a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by showing care and patience in all customer interactions.
- Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner, in or outside the designated department.
- Learn customers’ names and address them by name when possible.
- Assist customers by: escorting to products, securing products out of reach, loading/unloading heavy items, noting and relaying customer suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
- Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to callers.
- Work with coworkers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Weigh postal packages, run mail through meters, and process certified, express, UPS, registered, and insured mail.
- Process Western Union orders and sell money orders.
- Cash payroll, personal, ADC, and social security checks; sell hunting and fishing licenses.
- Manage cash drawers (break down and put money in utility drawers; sign on/off postal department; break down and turn off postal register; process paid outs).
- Handle faxes for customers and count daily coupons.
- Process refunds for customers and department-approved refunds.
- Answer the store telephone using appropriate techniques and use the intercom system for paging as needed.
- Remove trash timely; maintain personal hygiene and dress per guidelines; adhere to company policies and store guidelines.
- Report to work as scheduled and on time.
Secondary Duties And Responsibilities
- Sign on/off lottery machines; assist customers with dry cleaning where applicable.
- Assist customers at registers; sell and redeem lottery tickets; process bottle refunds.
- Assist in other areas of the store as needed; perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Worker Characteristics
- Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization; interpret instructions.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data between records; interview to obtain basic information; guide people and provide basic direction.
Education And Experience
High school or equivalent; experience of six months up to one year in similar or related work.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform medium work; exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently.
- Visual requirements include distance and near vision; depth perception; color vision; field of vision.
- Physical activities include stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, talking, and hearing.
Working Conditions
Fast-paced environment with potential dirt and noise and significant pressure.
