Operations Manager (Wholesale Distribution)

A well-established, privately held player in the wholesale distribution space is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead their warehouse and supply chain functions. This is a unique opportunity to join a respected organization known for its customer-first approach, performance-driven culture, and deep industry roots. With decades of success serving professional trade customers across Texas, this location is looking for a hands-on leader who can build systems, lead people, and drive operational excellence across the board.
Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Oversee daily warehouse activities including inventory management, order fulfillment, inbound/outbound logistics, and process optimization. Collaborate with purchasing and sales teams to maintain ideal stock levels and ensure timely delivery of products. Partner with suppliers and logistics providers to maintain consistent supply chain performance and cost efficiency. Team Development Manage and mentor warehouse and delivery staff, including training, scheduling, and performance management. Conduct regular coaching sessions and annual performance reviews to foster growth and operational alignment. Lead by example in upholding workplace safety, accountability, and teamwork. Process Improvement & KPIs Drive continuous improvement using data, KPIs, and industry best practices. Monitor key metrics such as inventory turns, devalued materials, stock availability, returns, and freight performance to inform strategic adjustments. Evaluate workflows regularly to identify bottlenecks and implement sustainable solutions. Customer Service & Issue Resolution Act as a liaison with the customer service team to troubleshoot delivery issues, order errors, and client concerns. Step into customer-facing duties as needed, including counter support and fielding incoming service calls. Champion a service-first mindset throughout the operations team. Safety, Compliance & Reporting Ensure full compliance with OSHA and internal safety standards, conducting regular inspections and training sessions. Prepare and present operations reports to senior leadership, summarizing performance, inventory health, and improvement opportunities. Financial Oversight Monitor operational expenses and develop cost-saving initiatives without sacrificing service quality. Partner with accounting to ensure accurate reporting on AP, freight audits, and material tagging.
Qualifications 5+ years of leadership experience in operations, ideally within the plumbing, HVAC, building materials, or related wholesale industries. Strong command of supply chain processes, team development, and warehouse operations. Proficiency in inventory systems and Microsoft Office; ERP experience preferred (Eclipse or similar systems). Clear communicator with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree in business, Logistics, or related field preferred.
