Senior Estimator - HVAC, Plumbing & Mechanical Piping Location:

Southeast U.S. Region

Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Estimator to lead the preparation of bids and proposals for HVAC, plumbing, and piping projects. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties Prepare estimates for conceptual and design-stage projects, including system design and pricing. Perform design calculations and develop specifications for equipment and materials. Assess labor factors and contingencies (e.g., high-rise, ceiling height, general conditions, aggressive schedules). Identify and implement cost-saving strategies where applicable. Build and maintain relationships with general contractors and client purchasing teams. Independently approve costs for estimates under $1M and 5,000 man-hours. Engage suppliers and subcontractors for bid pricing and scope clarification. Review and incorporate vendor and subcontractor quotes into final estimates. Customize and balance bid templates as required by project specifications. Attend pre-bid site visits, setup meetings, and project turnover sessions. Submit labor budgets for awarded projects.

Secondary Duties Maintain and track bid schedules. Order project drawings and bid bonds. Assist in bid reviews. Supervise and mentor junior estimators and trainees.

Qualifications Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents. Strong understanding of plumbing and mechanical code requirements. In-depth knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems and components. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g., AutoBid, Excel, Bluebeam). Strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Experience Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, or 10+ years of field experience in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical piping, or 5+ years of estimating experience in the same disciplines.
