As a Technical Writer Senior, you’ll transform intricate engineering data into clear, precise documentation that supports the operation, repair, and maintenance of cutting-edge products. This is an opportunity to play a key role in how information is delivered, understood, and applied in real-world settings.
Position Responsibilities
• Create and revise complex technical documentation including product descriptions, functional descriptions, operating procedures, repair/maintenance guides, illustrated parts breakdowns, reports, and proposals • Ensure documents conform to company, customer, and government standards, specifications, and language usage principles • Research and consult with engineering teams to translate designs and drawings into clear, usable documentation • Analyze and interpret complex engineering data and convert it into understandable instructions for diverse audiences • Evaluate and incorporate illustrations and graphics, requesting new visuals or updates when necessary • Provide input into document format and style to improve consistency and usability • Participate in reviews, validation efforts, and system testing on Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) • Interface with customers on project content and technical issues when required • Lead small or portions of large technical writing assignments, ensuring timely and accurate delivery • Stay current on industry practices, publication technologies, and documentation standards
Required Skills
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, and system operations • Ability to analyze technical drawings and engineering data and translate them into clear instructions • Proficiency with XML Authoring Tools (Arbortext Epic Editor, Oxygen software) • Skilled in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Access is a plus) • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Professional or similar markup tools • Experience with publication/page production software and IETM processes • Content Management System (CMS) experience a plus • Attention to detail, strong writing ability, and mastery of the English language • Ability to collaborate with diverse teams across multiple physical locations • Familiarity with military and commercial documentation standards preferred
Experience and Education
• Defense industry experience required • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience • At least 5 additional years of technical writing experience
