Compensation: $19.98 starting hourly rate; rate may increase based on years of relevant dental assistant experience and certifications.
Summary
A full-time, non-exempt position responsible for assisting the dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients of the center. The Dental Assistant is also responsible for sterilization, preparation and inventory control of dental instruments and supplies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists patients in resolving minor difficulties, answers questions, and gives directions as authorized by the dentist or dental hygienist.
- Serves as chair-side assistant to the dentist or dental hygienist.
- Prepares operatory for patient treatment as per Dental Department protocols and the dentist’s or dental hygienist’s directions.
- Exposes and develops dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations and department protocol.
- Performs independent procedures as delegated by the dentist in accordance with state regulation and department protocol.
- Maintains Dental Department equipment per manufacturer directions and department policy.
- Maintains all Dental Department areas in compliance with infection control, exposure control and safety protocols.
- Maintains operatory supplies and tracks shortages for inventory control and ordering.
- Maintains patient lists, monitors patient flow, and assists with ensuring proper documentation of patient records.
- Receives and makes appropriate telephone calls related to professional matters, clinic business, and patient care.
- Assists with various clinical and administrative functions as appropriate.
- Ensures sterility of reusable dental instruments and equipment per department directive.
- Ensures proper disposal of contaminated materials per department directive and regulations.
- Complies with the center’s Exposure Control Plan, use of PPE, and Universal Precautions.
- Participates in health promotion and disease prevention activities as required.
- Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
- Performs other related tasks as directed to achieve organizational goals.
- Complies with all applicable federal, state, local, and center rules and procedures related to clinical care, safety, confidentiality, and workplace conduct.
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct reports.
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited dental assisting course is preferred. Ability to work with diverse populations and collaborate with other health professionals to achieve patient-centered outcomes.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals; ability to write routine reports; ability to speak effectively before groups.
- Reasoning Abilities: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various forms.
- Computer Skills: Ability to gain knowledge of Practice Management System, Microsoft Office Suite, and accounting software.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certified Dental Assistant preferred. Current CPR (BLS) required.
- Other Skills: Spanish language ability is helpful.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
