Overview

MedStar Health is looking for a Clinical Social Worker to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. The Clinical Social Worker provides direct services to patients related to hospitalization, illness, and post-hospital planning. The role includes social work consultation, leadership and teaching functions for patients, families, and the community, in accordance with NASW Code of Ethics and MedStar Georgetown's policies and standards.

Primary Duties

• Provides clinical social work services to identified patients and families, including outpatient and inpatient services, individual and group counseling regarding the impact of illness and hospitalization. Collaborates with other health care professionals as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Facilitates communication regarding psychosocial issues to health care teams through medical records, consultation, and participation in relevant meetings.
• Acts as a coordinating link between patient, family, hospital, and community resources to assure continuity of care. Represents social work perspective on designated Hospital and Lombardi Cancer Center committees and community organizations.
• Participates in orientation, training, and education programs for students, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals. Identifies training needs and promotes professional development.
• Collaborates with other disciplines in development of new programs that enhance the quality of services to Oncology patients and their significant others. Works with Clinical Nurse Coordinator and Discharge Planning/Case Management to facilitate appropriate placement, including post-hospitalization when clinically warranted.
• Cooperates as a participant in the Social Work Department, providing backup and on-call responsibilities, committee work, research, QA/QI, and other duties as appropriate. May supervise LGSW-level social workers.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree of Social Work from an accredited program.
• 2 years' experience with acute and chronically ill patients (hospital setting preferred).
• Experience with oncology patients preferred.
• LICSW (Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker) in the District of Columbia.

This position has a hiring range of $72,758 - $130,041.
