Akkodis is seeking a Controls Engineer for a six-month plus contract to hire position with a client located in Chandler, AZ. You will join our team, specializing in the design, programming, and troubleshooting of automation and control systems for production and test equipment. You must have hands-on experience with PLCs, HMI programming, electrical and electronic design, and a strong background in automation technologies.

Pay/Salary Range: $50.00/hr - $62.50/hr. The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Controls Engineer job responsibilities include:

Programming for Production Automation: Develop and maintain PLC ladder logic (Productivity Suite experience a plus) HMI programming (C-More experience a plus) Application programming for PC-based systems (Visual Studio, VB.Net, National Instruments Measurement Studio/NI-DAQ, multi-threaded applications)

Integration & Communication: Implement and troubleshoot communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Serial Communications) Program collaborative robots (UR cobot experience a plus) Integrate and support vision systems (Cognex and Keyence experience a plus)

Electrical & Electronic Design: Design control panels and stations, including schematics, layouts, and control schemes Develop PLC and PC-based system architectures Ensure compliance with electrical safety and machine guarding standards Design and troubleshoot electronic test equipment (PCB schematics and layouts, advanced troubleshooting with DMMs and oscilloscopes)

Mechanical & Pneumatic Controls: Design pneumatic control systems and actuator controls (electric and pneumatic) Build and wire control panels/enclosures

CAD & Signal Processing: Create and modify designs using CAD software Work with both analog and digital signal types

QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline – Electrical or Electronics degrees preferred. • Five plus years of proven experience in controls engineering, automation, or a related field • Proficiency in PLC and HMI programming • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols • Experience with electrical and electronic design, including PCB layout and troubleshooting • Familiarity with cobot programming, vision systems, and pneumatic controls • Extensive CAD experience – AutoCAD or SolidWorks • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
