The Nursing Director is accountable for the quality of nursing practice and patient care delivery across designated Operating Rooms at both the Dobbs Ferry and Andrus locations.
Monday - Friday: 7am - 3pm
This role includes 24-hour responsibility and leadership, ensuring safe, high-quality, and patient-centered surgical care.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Administration
Holds 24-hour responsibility and accountability for Operating Room functions and staff.
Develops, implements, and evaluates the Nursing Department's philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and protocols.
Participates in developing and maintaining the table of organization and unit-based budgets.
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and monitors budgetary performance.
Clinical & Professional Practice
Establishes and maintains standards of care and professional nursing practice in the OR.
Provides clinical direction and supervision, ensuring safe and effective use of the nursing process.
Delegates authority to nursing staff in alignment with professional standards, regulatory guidelines, and hospital policy.
Evaluates the level of care delivered, ensuring continuous performance improvement.
Human Resource Management
Responsible for hiring, termination, disciplinary action, and performance appraisals of all direct reports.
Plans and implements clinical and leadership development programs for OR staff.
Evaluates training and development effectiveness and supports staff advancement.
Quality & Compliance
Leads unit-based quality and performance improvement initiatives.
Analyzes quality data, implements corrective actions, and reports outcomes at the departmental level.
Ensures compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
Communication & Collaboration
Fosters open, effective communication with staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments.
Enhances teamwork to ensure coordinated, patient-focused care.
Participates actively in hospital and departmental committees, both by appointment and volunteer service.
Qualifications:
Registered Nurse (RN), licensed in New York State.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of progressive nursing leadership experience in perioperative services.
Proven skills in clinical leadership, staff development, budgeting, and quality improvement.
