Overview:
We are partnering with a well-established real estate developer to find a Director of Construction to lead execution of commercial projects across their national portfolio. This role reports to the VP of Construction and is responsible for overseeing projects from initial concept through completion, ensuring alignment with company objectives, tenant requirements, and budgets.
This position focuses on portfolio support both in and outside of Boston, with projects in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Florida, and other markets. Candidates should be comfortable managing large, multi-million dollar, ground-up core and shell projects across multiple regions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead planning, budgeting, and execution of all construction projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery
- Provide oversight of Project Managers and construction teams, ensuring milestones are met and best practices are followed
- Serve as liaison between internal departments and external partners, including contractors, architects, engineers, and consultants
- Ensure compliance with design standards, regulations, and code requirements
- Review and approve budgets, schedules, change orders, and contracts
- Identify, mitigate, and manage project risks proactively
- Guide constructability and design reviews to optimize project execution
- Maintain strong relationships with municipalities, tenants, and other stakeholders
- Oversee seamless handoff of completed projects to Operations
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the construction department
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
- 10–12 years of experience in commercial construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Proven ability to manage multiple large-scale, multi-market projects simultaneously
- Extensive knowledge of construction management, budgeting, scheduling, contracts, and compliance
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities
- Comfortable with ~30% travel
