SIMPLIFI INTERVIEW
• General Information
• Beds: 39 - MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU - mixed unit- All one ICU divided into pods- would not float into CVICU side unless experienced in that unit/specialty
• Minimal Experience:
• 2 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel experience is most preferred
• If they have 1.5 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel and have significant RN experience outside of ICU, please have CRT send to management team for approval
• Will you accept a first-time traveler? No. Minimum one prior travel assignment.
• Travelers must live 100 miles away from any Monument Health facility
• Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Patient Types:
• Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma
• Diagnoses include but are not limited to: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma - heavy trauma population
• Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR - 24 to 48 hrs post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers
• Will not take fresh open hearts unless they are experienced, and the facility felt comfortable with this - given to permanent staff
• Patient Ratios:
• RN: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 (rare) - acuity dependent
• Required Certifications:
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• TNCC (REQUIRED) - please decline travelers that would not be willing to obtain this certification prior to arrival
• Required Education:
• Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
• Skills required:
• Epic experience
• Comfortability working a 48hr/week contract - this is not negotiable for this unit
• Experience with the above-mentioned patients

• ICU RN qualified to float to ED
• PCU RN qualified to float to ICU
• Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, telemetry, strong critical thinking and assessment skills, working well in team setting, comfortable in fast pace setting with all critical patients.
• Impella, IABP and CRRT - strongly preferred

• Support on the Unit:
• CNA: 1-2 Nurse Aides per unit + mobility float aide
• Charge nurse: 2 CRNs oversee all ICUs
• Phlebotomy? Yes, peripheral blood draws only
• IV/VAT Team? ICU CRNs place all midlines
• Resource Nurse: Yes, staffing dependent
• RT: Yes, 24/7
• Physicians: 3 Intensivists on days, 2 on nights + APP on nights
• Charting System:
• Epic - REQUIRED FOR ED & ICU
• Alaris- (Will be switching to Baxter Pumps by October)
• Omnicell
• Floating: If yes, where?
• Not common unless overstaffed. Could float to any adult floor - including Medsurg/Tele with 1:4 ratio. Confirm traveler comfortability during interview
• Orientation: (facility and unit)
• Hospital orientation
• (1) 12 hour shift and (1) 8 hour shift in the ICU
• Scheduling:
• Weekend rotation: Every other-but not guaranteed
• Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No
• Holiday Expectations: No RTO during holidays
• Approval of time off? Up to 7 days - must extend to accommodate a full 13-week contract. No RTO during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August every year)
