Job Description Antheia is seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to join our Downstream Processing team. You will play a critical role in developing innovative, scalable processes to separate and purify bio-derived Key Starting Materials and APIs. You will work hands-on from bench to pilot scale, solving complex challenges that bring groundbreaking science from the lab to manufacturing. You will design and optimize processes, support technology transfers, and directly contribute to delivering high-quality, sustainable products. You will lead experiments, analyze data, and guide the procurement and maintenance of equipment essential for scaling up processes. This role offers the chance to collaborate cross-functionally with experts in Biology, Analytics, Operations, Manufacturing, and Regulatory teams.

Responsibilities

Develop DSP processes that are scalable, meet timelines and cost of goods targets, and support scale-up to manufacturing.

Support tech transfer projects to manufacturing by providing scalable data to determine equipment fit and process flow.

Establish key unit operation parameters based on robustness to meet specifications and recovery yields.

Identify and procure equipment for bench to Pilot Scale Process Development and track equipment costs for budgeting.

Provide equipment SOPs, perform maintenance planning, and ensure continuous DSP processing capabilities.

Characterize downstream process streams and identify parameters that impact unit operation behavior, yield, and purity.

Maintain mass balance data for all DSP processes and provide heat and energy balances when needed.

Design experiments and analyze data.

Provide PFDs, P&IDs and basis of design for DSP processes when required.

Provide and maintain DSP documentation to support process analysis and tech transfers.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, including KPI tracking and career development.

Comply with safety protocols and ensure the safety of co-workers.

Comply with Regulatory and DEA requirements when required for handling, disposal and documentation.

Support project teams to deliver on project goals.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

B.S. in Chemical Engineering (or related engineering discipline) with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience specifically within downstream processing.

Hands-on experience with downstream unit operations and proven process scale-up from bench to pilot scale (300-500 L); includes scale-down for troubleshooting.

Experience with equipment procurement, commissioning, authoring SOPs, training and maintenance and repairs.

Experience modeling process predictions to improve process development efficiencies.

Prior leadership experience, with at least 1 direct report.

Available to travel ~10% annually, both domestic and international.

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Must be able to work onsite in Menlo Park, M-F. Local candidates preferred as relocation assistance is not available at this time.

Nice to have (not required)

Analytical Chemistry experience is a plus.

Data analysis expertise using tools such as JMP.

Additional Information Full-time base salary range of $140,000 – $170,000 plus an annual bonus potential and equity opportunities.

Compensation Base pay range: $140,000.00/yr - $170,000.00/yr. This range is provided by Antheia, Inc. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
