Overview
Electrician role at Veolia North America.
Position Purpose
Performs electrical maintenance and emergency repairs, makes modifications, and executes the preventive maintenance program designed for the facility. Supports the maintenance staff with repairs of equipment both routine and emergency.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
- Repairs and maintains all facility electrical wiring and fixtures in accordance with blueprints, manuals, and building codes using appropriate hand and electrician's tools.
- Installs and repairs electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
- Repairs and maintains major equipment such as motors, generators, and electrical control systems.
- Tests defective equipment to determine the cause of malfunction or failure using standard electrical test equipment.
- Observes functioning of installed facility equipment to detect hazards and need for adjustment, relocation, or replacement.
- Inspects circuits and wiring for specified shielding and grounding and repairs or rewires plant equipment systems according to state building codes and safety regulations.
- Plans layout of new wiring installations.
- Inspects equipment on a regularly scheduled basis; maintains and repairs solid state boiler control systems, electrical switch gear, and electric motors as required by the preventive maintenance program.
- Adjusts, calibrates, and repairs electrical-pneumatic control systems; inspects electrical-pneumatic system for emergency repairs; reports and logs all findings.
- Position may require working non-standard hours to complete a repair job; candidate should be a self-starter who can work independently and participate in cross-training in all aspects of facility maintenance.
- Possesses a valid commercial driver’s license to operate on-the-road equipment.
- Maintains the files necessary to support all maintenance activities and be available for emergency callouts and standby rotations.
- Performs other duties as required.
Work Environment
- Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background
- High School Diploma/GED required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Extensive knowledge in the operation and maintenance of vehicles, electrical equipment, motors, pumps, and equipment used in and around water and wastewater systems.
- Extensive knowledge with hand and power tools and equipment commonly used in the electrical field.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in maintenance and repair of advanced mechanical and/or electrical systems.
- Ability to work with computers to create spreadsheets and documents and input information into Kloudgin.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training
- Valid Connecticut Electrical License.
- Valid Connecticut Driver's License.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds, climb ladders or scaffolds, and work in tight spaces.
- Must be able to walk up to 3 miles per 8-hour shift and ascend/descend up to 1,000 steps in an 8-hour shift.
- Must be able to carry a 50-pound toolbox and work in constricted places; able to reach, stoop, and bend to service equipment.
