Job Summary:
The Special Education Paraprofessional supports students with disabilities in both general and special education settings by assisting with instruction, behavior management, and personal care. This role works under the direct supervision of a certified special education teacher to help create an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment that meets the unique needs of each student. The paraprofessional will also be expected to carry out roles to support the overall Movement School environment, such as lunch or recess coverage.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the teacher with implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and instructional activities. Provide academic support to students in one-on-one or small group settings. Support students in developing social-emotional and communication skills. Monitor and manage student behavior, using positive behavior strategies and behavior intervention plans (BIPs). Assist students with personal care tasks, which may include feeding, toileting, dressing, and mobility support. Accompany students throughout the school day, including in general education classrooms, therapy sessions, recess, and lunch. Maintain accurate records of student progress, behaviors, and incidents. Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to ensure student needs are met. Help prepare instructional materials and organize learning spaces. Participate in professional development and training as required. Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. Work Environment:
School/classroom setting. May involve physical activity, including lifting, bending, or assisting students with mobility.
