SEIU Local 1 Job Summary The Helper A Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in keeping the property clean, safe, and in excellent condition. This position covers basic maintenance, janitorial, and groundskeeping duties while supporting the make-ready process for vacant units. Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors, with a focus on quality, timeliness, and safety. Essential Responsibilities Complete assigned tasks from the Chief Engineer, Facilities Manager, or Property Manager

Participate in evening, weekend, and holiday on-call schedule

Perform routine maintenance on equipment and property systems

Inspect units, buildings, and public areas; complete repairs as needed

Replace lighting in hallways, public spaces, and outdoor areas

Handle minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting tasks

Maintain cleanliness in public spaces, grounds, and maintenance areas

Assist with move-in/move-out inspections and unit turnovers

Support snow removal, lawn care, and other seasonal needs

Work safely and follow OSHA and company safety standards

Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent

3+ years maintenance or repair experience, preferably in residential settings

At least 1 year in customer service and/or apartment maintenance

Knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC

Ability to lift 50 lbs and use hand/power tools

Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation

Ability to work in varying weather conditions and environments

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred based on resident needs

Must obtain UPCS Inspections certification and union-required certifications

Personal hand tools required

Physical & Work Environment Work performed both indoors and outdoors, including rooftops, basements, gardens, and parking lots

Requires bending, climbing, lifting, crawling, and standing for extended periods

Exposure to chemicals, paints, dust, and extreme weather conditions

Regular attendance and punctuality are required
