The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.We are seeking an exceptional Director of Engineering to lead the Unified Acquisition and Management (UAM) for our online subscriptions, with a clear mandate to drive subscriber growth, including acquisition, conversion, retention, and virality. You will be responsible for the member experience and systems powering the entire premium subscription lifecycle, ensuring that every aspect of acquiring, managing, and retaining premium subscribers functions seamlessly across our digital platforms.The UAM team builds and maintains core systems that fuel growth, including Premium discovery, viral sharing features, user onboarding and management, subscription changes, renewals, signups, pricing, packaging, perks, and overall system health. As the leader of this group in a high-impact leadership role, you will own the technical strategy and execution, requiring a strong blend of technical expertise, operational rigor, and cross-functional collaboration. You will lead engineering efforts aligning closely with member needs, leveraging AI-driven personalization, and expanding through new channels, building a sustainable and scalable member growth. You will partner cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Data Science, Finance, and Customer Experience to unify disparate systems and deliver seamless, personalized, data-driven customer journeys. This role requires a strategic thinker and strong technical leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and is motivated by building both teams and platforms that scale.ResponsibilitiesLead the UAM organization, collaborating closely with partner teams to manage and grow a high-performing engineering group. Own the end-to-end experience from user-facing interfaces to backend and offline systems, while delivering on an ambitious product and technical roadmap.Set Technical Vision for Growth: Shape the future of LinkedIn's online subscriptions growth, retention and customer lifecycle management by combining AI, LLMs, and systems innovation to deliver highly relevant and personalized member experiences.Architect for Scale: Guide the team in building scalable, high-availability systems to handle millions of queries reliably and efficiently.Drive Growth Product Strategy: Partner closely with product, design, and AI teams to align technical investments with member and business needs.Foster a High-Performance Culture: Champion engineering best practices, quality, operational rigor, and innovation across the team.Talent Development: Recruit, mentor, and grow top engineering talent, fostering an inclusive environment where individuals can do their best work.Cross-Functional Leadership: Influence and collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders to drive complex, high-impact initiatives forward.Stay Ahead of Trends: Monitor emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure we have a thriving online subscriptions ecosystem.QualificationsBasic Qualifications10+ years of experience building AI-powered consumer products at scale, with 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field - Computer Science, Operational Research, Statistics, Economics or related fields.Proven experience leading and scaling engineering teams to deliver consumer-facing products.Technical foundation in distributed systems, relevance algorithms, retrieval systems, personalization, and infrastructure.Preferred QualificationsHands-on experience in developing and deploying large-scale, consumer-facing applications.Proficient in Java, JavaScript, Databases.Track record of influencing technical and product strategy at an organizational level.Deep understanding of building robust, scalable systems to handle high-velocity, large-scale data and query loads.Strong leadership and people development skills, with a passion for building inclusive, high-performing teams.Ability to thrive in ambiguous, high-stakes environments and drive clarity and execution across complex initiatives.Compensation and BenefitsThe pay range for this role is $209,000 to $343,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. The total compensation package may also include annual performance bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
