Job Title: Analyst, Academic Business

Job Summary

The academic business analyst is responsible for developing, communicating, and maintaining data models, dashboards, and analytical tools that support strategic decision-making across the University. This role focuses on enrollment estimation, academic margin analysis, executive reporting, and financial efficiency modeling. The analyst will collaborate with stakeholders across academic and administrative units to deliver actionable insights through PowerBI and other business intelligence platforms.

Job Responsibilities and Execution
  • Manages and implements projects to complete business critical data reports for public compliance, external publications, Academic Affairs, and business planning
  • Designs and maintains advanced PowerBI dashboards and reports to support enrollment forecasting, academic program profitability, and institutional financial planning
  • Develops and maintains profit and loss models for academic units and administrative functions
  • Conducts academic margin analyses to evaluate instructional cost efficiency and inform resource allocation
  • Supports executive leadership with high-impact reporting and scenario modeling for strategic planning
  • Designs and implements data governance and data mapping approaches to help the University better understand academic and student support expenditures
  • Collaborates with Finance, Enrollment Management, and Academic Affairs to align data models with institutional goals.
  • Collects and analyzes national and regional benchmarking data
  • Manages and assists in the design and implementation of business planning calendars and related reports and analyses
  • Identifies University data quality and business process issues and makes recommendations for improvements
  • Participates in data quality and data governance groups or committees
  • Develops business intelligence reports to provide real-time data on key business and educational topics

  • Communicates complicated data effectively to a variety of audiences
  • Coordinates the collection and input of compliance data from multiple university offices
  • Collaborates with other offices or stakeholders on business process and data management issues
  • Functions as one of the University's student data experts, participating in decision-making and providing guidance to multiple units within the University

Required Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, data analytics, or relevant field
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience with educational data, preferably in higher education
  • Experience querying relational databases and/or writing sql queries
  • Experience creating business intelligence reports through PowerBI or Tableau
  • Experience with Anthology/Campus Labs student information systems preferred, as well as Banner/Workday

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Familiarity with higher education financial aid, federal educational compliance, or Missouri higher education compliance
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to use good judgment and think critically on quantitative questions
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with PowerBI
