We are looking for a Reference Data Analyst to join GMO’s Data Engineering and Operations team within the Technology group, focusing on the maintenance and validation of financial reference data in GMO’s internal systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the data flow of GMO’s reference data within internal databases and vendor applications (e.g., BlackRock Aladdin and Eagle Pace).
  • Obtain a clear understanding of publicly traded security types including equities, fixed income, and derivatives.
  • Monitor, modify, and write new data quality reports to ensure critical reference data attributes are accurate and consistent within GMO systems.
  • Develop an understanding of how GMO’s data maintenance and processing affects reporting and decision-making.
  • Respond to trading, compliance, operational, and reporting requests within tight intraday deadlines.
  • Analyze data in multiple databases and use vendor toolsets, Python, SQL, and Excel to develop recommendations to improve data quality.
  • Design, develop and maintain APIs and Python code.
  • Propose process improvements (e.g., control reports, daily checklists).
  • Monitor data provider change notifications to gauge impact to the business.
  • Build business requirements for onboarding new datasets and collaborate with software developers to test and implement data processing/storage.
  • Participate in an Agile software development environment (e.g., scrum meetings, explain data and business requirements, prioritize development tasks).
  • Develop or modify workflows to meet business requirements.
  • Provide analysis and troubleshooting for production issues as needed.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3–5 years of relevant investment industry experience working with reference or research data.
  • Experience with MS SQL.
  • Working knowledge of BlackRock Aladdin.
  • High energy, conscientious, self-directed, and strong work ethic.
  • Flexibility to be on call to log in at night on a rotational basis.
  • Intellectual curiosity about investment data.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical, organizational, project management, and written communication skills.

Plus

  • Experience with Python.
  • Working knowledge of Eagle Pace.
  • Experience with Bloomberg or Refinitiv and other industry-standard investment tools.

Compensation and benefits

Salary $85,000 - $105,000 a year. This is a reasonable, good faith estimate of GMO’s current salary range. GMO’s salary range accounts for a wide array of factors including skill sets, market demand for skills, experience, training, location, and business needs.

Location and work arrangement

The position will be based in Boston with a hybrid work model; the current expectation is to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week, with the balance of the week flexible between office and remote work.
