Kataly Foundation, a family foundation based in the San Francisco Bay Area, is committed to supporting restorative economics, environmental justice, mindfulness and healing justice, and racial justice. Founded in 2018 with the intention of spending out a $445 million endowment over a ten-year time horizon, this growing organization aims to support movements around these issues and serve as a progressive leader in philanthropy.

If you want to know about the requirements for this role, read on for all the relevant information. Kataly’s mission is to support and provide resources to communities and social movements exploring new solutions to systemic problems. The Foundation embraces its role in changing systems that led to wealth extraction from these communities. It moves resources to support the economic, political, and cultural power of Black, Indigenous, and communities of color. By transforming its relationship to capital, the planet, and each other, Kataly seeks to redistribute and redefine wealth towards transformation, abundance, and regeneration. Unique to Kataly is its inclusive approach, engaging community leaders in decision-making through a “practitioner-funder” philosophy. The Foundation centers solutions within affected communities and practices solidarity philanthropy, including general operating support, creative capital use, capacity building, and network weaving. The Foundation’s Program Areas include: Restorative Economies Fund:

Invests in community-led projects creating shared prosperity and collective power, combining grants with non-extractive investments and support. Environmental Justice Resourcing Collective:

Funds work led by women of color to build power in communities impacted by environmental racism and climate change. Mindfulness and Healing Justice:

Supports community-based mindfulness, leadership development, and healing practices for communities of color, promoting racial justice and collective liberation. Our goal is a world where Black and brown communities have the resources, power, and agency to realize their visions for justice and prosperity, recognizing that our fates are intertwined. Learn more at katalyfoundation.org. The Opportunity: The Program Officer (PO) for the Restorative Economies Fund (REF) will be a key leader within the Foundation, managing relationships with grantees and co-leading the REF grant program alongside another Program Officer. Responsibilities include developing procedures, assessing partners, engaging community issues, fostering relations, and supporting capacity-building efforts. The PO must understand and embody Kataly’s values, possess knowledge of the Foundation’s processes, and have relevant lived and movement-building experience in the U.S. justice and solidarity economy movements. Flexibility and adaptability are essential as the Foundation evolves and seeks innovative practices.
