Position summary We are seeking a hands-on, results-oriented General Manager to lead our high-volume welding and fabrication operation. This role oversees all aspects of a multi-shift, fast-paced facility and requires deep knowledge of welding processes, metals manufacturing, and team leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong operational expertise, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to drive performance, quality, and throughput in a complex shop environment. The General Manager will own the operational P&L and ensure seamless execution across production, safety, and delivery. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operational Leadership: Oversee all welding and metal fabrication activities including production planning, work order execution, weld inspections, layout/fit-up, and finishing. Drive quality, safety, and throughput across MIG, TIG, robotic, and manual welding operations. Safety & Compliance: Promote a zero-incident culture. Enforce OSHA, AWS, and internal safety standards. Ensure compliance with weld codes, equipment inspections, and PPE policies. Financial Management: Manage operational P&L. Drive cost reductions in labor, material usage, rework, and overtime. Optimize resource planning, tooling, and consumables usage across weld bays. Team Development: Lead and develop a team of welders, fabricators, supervisors, and support staff (5+ direct reports, 150+ associates). Build a performance-driven culture with clear expectations, coaching, and accountability. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Supply Chain, Engineering, Sales, and Corporate Leadership to align production with business objectives. Continuous Improvement: Champion lean initiatives to reduce waste, improve weld cell layout, implement standard work, and increase overall process efficiency. ERP & Data Analytics: Leverage ERP systems and data-driven insights to forecast demand, track KPIs, and optimize decision-making. Qualifications and experience (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, Engineering, or a related field (MBA preferred). 10+ years of experience in manufacturing, welding, metal fabrication, assembly or construction , with at least 7+ years in a leadership role. Proven experience managing a nine-figure P&L, driving cost reductions, and maximizing profitability. Expertise in labor planning, workforce optimization, and capacity planning. Proven leadership managing large teams and cross-functional projects. Proficiency in ERP systems and data analytics tools, Epicor or similar ERP system preferred. Ability to excel in a high-growth, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
