After Brightline Florida completed the first passenger rail system connecting Miami and Orlando, Brightline West was formed to connect Las Vegas and Southern California through the nation’s first true high-speed, electric passenger rail system. Reaching speeds of more than 186 miles per hour, this 218-mile high-speed rail service will take passengers from Las Vegas to the Greater Los Angeles area twice as fast as the normal drive time.

Your Purpose:
As aVP of Government Affairs,you will lead government relations activities across California and Nevada for our high-speed rail project connecting Las Vegas to Southern California. This position will be instrumental in maintaining stakeholder relationships and ensuring successful project implementation across state and local jurisdictions.

Your Role:
Government Affairs Strategy: The Vice President of Government Affairs will lead the development and execution of comprehensive state and local government affairs strategies across California and Nevada. This includes shaping legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts to support Brightline West’s priorities, especially during the construction phase of the project. The role requires proactive engagement with political stakeholders, monitoring policy developments, and driving efforts to secure favorable legislative and regulatory outcomes. The VP will also manage outreach related to grant compliance and ensure alignment with federal funding requirements, while coordinating grassroots and grasstops advocacy campaigns to support business initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement: A key responsibility of this role is building and sustaining productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including governors’ offices, state legislators, local elected officials, and key agencies such as the Nevada Department of Transportation, Caltrans, and the Federal Railroad Administration. The VP will represent Brightline West before legislative bodies, regulatory panels, public forums, chambers of commerce, and tourism boards. This includes active participation in local and state meetings and fostering partnerships with economic development organizations to advance the company's presence and reputation.
Internal Collaboration and Strategic Alignment: This role requires close coordination with internal teams to ensure alignment between government affairs strategies and broader project objectives. The VP will work cross-functionally with legal, engineering, construction, and project development teams, and will partner with the communications team to align messaging and stakeholder communications.

Managerial Responsibility:
Direct supervisory responsibility including the ability to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline, or effectively recommend such actions.
Experience & Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of government affairs experience, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles.
Demonstrated experience navigating both California and Nevada political and regulatory environments.
Proven success leading advocacy campaigns and securing regulatory approvals.
Strong background in the transportation, infrastructure, or energy sectors, with experience supporting large-scale infrastructure projects and managing complex regulatory processes.
Ability to travel as needed, primarily between Las Vegas and Southern California, with some additional travel.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Deep understanding of the political landscapes in California and Nevada, including key stakeholders, legislative and regulatory processes, and regional dynamics.
Well-established relationships with government officials, regulatory agencies, and key partners in both states.
Strategic thinking with the ability to develop and execute effective government affairs strategies.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence diverse audiences and drive alignment across stakeholders.
Works in a clean, air-conditioned office space, free of noise, dust, and humidity.
Physical Demands:

The employee is frequently required to stand, talk, and hear. Occasional lifting of light items required. No specific vision requirements.
