A Family Partner is an experienced, trained primary caregiver to an individual with mental illness or serious emotional disturbance who provides peer mentoring, education, and support to the caregivers of the individual receiving mental health community services. The Family Partner works with caregivers and families of youth with serious emotional disturbance to build family empowerment and advocacy, promoting long-term recovery and resiliency. The Family Partner is an essential part of the treatment team, working alongside Case Managers, Counselors, and Psychiatrists to ensure trauma-informed, person/family-centered services that are linguistically and culturally appropriate. Using their own lived experience, they inspire hope and model respectful, trusting relationships. They help caregivers through education and emotional support, acting as an ally and advocate for families of children with mental health concerns. This "peerness" fosters connection, rapport, and hope. The services provided include introducing families to the treatment process, modeling self-advocacy, providing information, making referrals, and assisting in identifying natural supports. These services aim to address barriers and engage families across all levels of care. This position is community-based and requires travel within Collin County, possibly out of town for training, using personal vehicle as needed. Education, Training, and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). Must be a parent or legally authorized representative with at least one year of experience raising a child or adolescent with mental health issues, including navigating child-serving systems. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems. Strong communication skills and ability to relate empathetically with families and the treatment team. Willingness to disclose lived experience when appropriate. Flexibility in working hours. Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
