Cardless is hiring: Software Engineer in San Francisco

Overview Cardless is looking for an experienced backend engineer to join our team. As a Staff Engineer, you will help set the technical direction and execution for our Fintech platform, impacting multiple domains including applications, accounts, transactions, fraud, risk, and rewards. Responsibilities Technical Leadership and Oversight: Lead the design and development of scalable, secure, reliable, and high-performance systems for co-branded credit card products. Contribute to both 0-to-1 development and scaling of successful products. Lead by example with hands-on execution in complex domains of our architecture. System Architecture and Design: Architect end-to-end solutions that incorporate security, compliance, and performance optimization. Evaluate and select technologies, frameworks, and tools to meet current and future scalability. Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and maintainability. Communication and Collaboration: Translate business requirements into technical specifications, mentor engineering teams, and communicate updates and strategic direction to stakeholders and executive leadership. What we look for 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in leading the technical direction for a team or organization Strong ownership and autonomy Experience designing and building complex financial systems, particularly in fintech Extensive experience with cloud platforms and microservices; AWS preferred Experience with NoSQL databases (DynamoDB) Proficiency in modern programming languages (Java, Python) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Nice to have Experience building and maintaining external, public-facing APIs Experience implementing or integrating ML feature stores Experience in reconciling financial data in online and offline systems Note This role is open to experienced (senior/staff+) engineers only. Salary and Benefits Salary: $180,000 - $260,000 per year + equity + benefits. Actual compensation depends on skills, experience, and location.
