About the Role

The Accountant is responsible for managing key areas of nonprofit and for-profit financial operations, including general ledger maintenance, fund accounting, accounts payable processing, and routing invoices for departmental approvals. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, the Code of Federal Regulations, State of Hawaii regulations, and internal policies, while supporting timely and accurate reporting for leadership, funders, and auditors. Must adhere to the Mission of the organization.

Requirements

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or related field.
  • CPA or progress towards CPA preferred..
Experience & Other Qualifications:
  • Minimum three (3) years of accounting experience, including fund accounting and grants management.
  • Prior experience with accounts payable systems and electronic approval workflow.
  • Knowledge of Great Plains ERP software is preferred.
  • Able to express self clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
  • Able to interface data from various software applications to general ledger for financial accounting.
  • Interfaces data from various software applications to general ledger for financial accounting.
  • Utilizes financial systems to complete work efficiently.
Skills Required:
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with ability to be patient, maintain composure and interact with customers with courtesy, tact and discretion.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations on short notice with ease.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and maintain composure under time constraints.
  • Use discretion in maintaining confidential information
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Ability to work with all levels of personnel.
  • Must possess technical and professional financial knowledge.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
