Overview
The Planning Graphic Designer helps create graphics for print, social media, interactive multimedia, video and film in support of the Phoenix Convention Center & Venues marketing goals. This may include brochures, facility artwork, social media graphics and more. The Planning Graphic Designer works under the general supervision of the Public Information Officer. Work is reviewed based on the effectiveness of the finished project. Considerable latitude and independence are allowed in the development and completion of projects.
Essential Functions
- Designs and prepares print, digital, social media, maps, displays, brochures and related marketing and communications materials.
- Develops artist concepts for projects using various types of media.
- Advises on artistic and visual presentation of marketing materials.
- Performs video and image editing.
- Uses computer graphics and photo editing software to prepare layouts for various media formats.
- Demonstrates superior customer service, integrity, and a commitment to innovation and efficiency.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
Ideal Candidate
- Strong eye for branding.
- Willingness to draft multiple mockups for each project and collaborate across divisions.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and track work, and to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Accepts constructive feedback and can create print and digital marketing materials independently under general supervision.
- Effective oral communication with customers, clients, and the public in person or by phone.
- Works cooperatively with City employees; presents facts clearly in graphic form.
- Understands and can carry out oral and written instructions in English; works safely without posing a threat to self or others.
Salary and Benefits
- Pay Range: $26.18 - $44.77 per hour
- Hiring Range: $26.18 - $38.68 per hour
- Comprehensive benefits package including pension, 401(a)/457 plans, medical plans, wellness incentives, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, transit benefits, tuition reimbursement, and paid time off.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree in computer graphics, art, or a related field.
- Two years of experience in commercial graphics design.
- Other combinations of experience and education may be substituted.
- All finalists are subject to a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and animation software; photo and video editing.
- Experience designing both digital (social media, digital ads, website) and print materials (brochures, guides, wayfinding signage).
- Experience in tourism industry; use of digital cameras; managing digital signage and wayfinding systems.
