Job Summary

The College of Liberal Arts at Oregon State University (OSU) – Cascades in Bend, Oregon invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, fixed-term Instructor of Graphic Design position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean. The primary responsibilities are to teach (and potentially develop) undergraduate courses on-campus in graphic design areas such as typography, design tools and techniques, interaction design, design thinking, information design, branding systems, packaging design, professional development, design theory, and design history. The successful candidate will promote diversity through pedagogy and student mentoring, and collaborate with OSU-Cascades in interdisciplinary community outreach around diversity and the arts. The position is renewable yearly with opportunity for promotion to Senior Instructor.

What You Will Need

  • Master’s degree in discipline appropriate to the field of teaching/instructional tasks.
  • Minimum two years of teaching experience at the university level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity in a multicultural setting and to advancing participation of diverse groups and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills in professional settings (with inter- and intra-university programs/departments, and/or external stakeholders).

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience teaching across the Adobe suite; experience with Maya, Grasshopper, and Rhino is a plus.
  • Experience in commercial workflow and teaching in commercial workflow.
  • Background or expertise in engaging Indigenous and/or Latinx communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of experiential learning pedagogies and in-class reflection.

Responsibilities & Work Schedule

80% – Teach and mentor students; initial assignments include delivering undergraduate Graphic Design, Art, or AMT courses and mentoring students in the area.

10% – Maintain currency in the field and pedagogy through professional development activities (literature review, workshops, conferences, etc.). Disseminate ideas within the program, university, and broader community.

10% – Serve on OSU-Cascades committees and perform other duties as assigned.

Research is not an inherent expectation for this position.

Working Conditions

Work schedule may vary depending on student needs and campus activities. Salary: Recommended Full-Time Salary Range $55,000–$62,000. Pay date: last working day of the month.
