Overview

This position is full-time on-site with the Department of Transportation in Washington, DC. The role reports to the Helpdesk Manager and is part of the end-user support team providing IT support for issues related to classroom instructional technology systems, simulation center equipment, and peripheral devices installed in classrooms, simulation centers, learning spaces, and conference rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Provide desk-side support to end users for complex issues, with efficient response and resolution.
  • Serve as the escalation point for Junior and Mid-level desk-side engineers.
  • Act independently in a customer environment and coordinate with engineers from multiple teams to troubleshoot issues.
  • On-site, full-time support at the DOT office in Washington, DC (5 days a week).
  • Support, maintain, and manage IT equipment including projectors, video cameras, video conferencing, audio recording for multimedia classrooms, computer hardware, peripherals, software, laptops, learning spaces, and instructor stations.
  • Conduct end-to-end troubleshooting and resolution of IT issues.
  • Coordinate system upgrade projects and develop Classroom Technology maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Assess IT systems and equipment to ensure they meet current and future educational needs and recommend improvements.
  • Assess classroom configuration needs and formulate recommendations for enhancements.
  • Research, recommend, and implement IT equipment and configurations to meet educational needs while ensuring compatibility with Academy systems and architecture.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 4 years of desk-side support, specializing in troubleshooting complex and advanced end-user issues with classroom technology.
  • Broad knowledge across IT disciplines such as computing and networking.
  • High School Diploma required; degree may be substituted with 6 years of related experience. HDI Technical Support Professional certification required within 6 months of employment.
  • Experience in operational planning, development, and technical management of instructional technology systems and peripheral devices in classrooms, simulation centers, and learning spaces; maintenance of related equipment.
  • Experience coordinating system upgrades and developing instructional technology maintenance plans and schedules; knowledge of current educational technology trends is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, prioritization abilities, and aptitude to learn new educational technologies quickly.
  • Technology management: ability to consult with faculty and departments to identify and implement educational technology across settings.
  • Technology Training & Instruction: participation in Academy technology and simulation committees to align instructional goals with technology use.
  • IT Support certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Google IT Support Professional Certificate are highly desirable.
  • Education Management and related competencies in instructional technology.

Compensation

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
