Overview
The Agency of Education is seeking a Program Technician II to support the Education Program Approvals Division. This division oversees educator licensing and preparation, post-secondary program approvals, Independent School approvals and rate setting, and home study enrollment. This position provides division-wide support with seasonal projects and opportunities to expand into a specialized role based on program needs and candidate strengths.
This division works very closely with educators, administrators, schools, parents and families, and the broader education field. Direct communication with various AOE staff, educators, administrators, and outside agencies (in and out of State) occurs on a regular basis. Successful candidates must be organized, detail oriented, and comfortable learning nuanced program rules and policies.
Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Attend to front desk, answer phones, including Main Line, and respond to general inquiries
Manage internal e-mail account and respond to inquiries within 48 hours
Support Home Study enrollment on a seasonal basis
Support Independent School team on various projects
Transcript management - mailed and emailed
Attend and contribute to meetings
Purging/scanning of documents
Public records liaison
Perform license verification
Process mail
Data entry and filing
Technical assistance for online licensing system
Provide administrative support for travel, IPO's, confirmations

Class Definition Complex and specialized technical work as a paraprofessional, duties involve administering a multi-faceted phase of an agency program including technical and clerical processes. Requires a broad knowledge of an agency program. This is the second level in the Program Technician series and is distinguished from the first level by a broader scope of program responsibility and the need to function with much independence. Work is performed under the general direction of an administrative superior, but with need for significant interaction with other division or department staff, other state or outside agencies.
Environmental Factors Duties are performed predominately in an office setting. Private means of travel should be available for occasional travel when appropriate. Incumbents must be adaptable and able to work within tight time limits and under considerable stress. Some evening and weekend duty may be necessary.
Minimum Qualifications Two years or more of full-time college coursework OR an associate's degree or higher AND two (2) years or more of experience at or above a technical level in program administration (such as administering components of a licensing and certification program, or records management).
OR
High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of experience at or above a technical level in program administration (such as administering components of a licensing and certification program, or records management).
OR
One (1) year or more of experience as a Program Technician I with the State of Vermont.
