Job Description: Are you ready to make a meaningful impact on our community's waste management efforts? We are currently seeking a dedicated and hard worker to join the City of Amarillo Solid Waste Disposal Department Landfill team. As a General Laborer, you will play a vital role in maintaining and operating our landfill facility, ensuring efficient ground maintenance, stormwater control management, litter control, and dust suppression. Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, operate, plan, and set up two diesel-powered 6-inch pumps used for surface water management.
  • Operate the water truck to effectively suppress dust on landfill roads, ensuring a safe and clean environment.
  • Manage ground maintenance and stormwater control in compliance with TNRCC and SWP3 regulations, ensuring environmental standards are met.
  • Picking up waste and debris on site, entrance road, and the neighboring properties.
  • Directing traffic in a high paced environment, keeping residents and fellow employees safe.
  • Perform manual labor when necessary to assist in various tasks and duties assigned.
  • General Cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping stalking supplies and disinfecting the break room, supply closet and shop.
  • Carry out other job-related duties as assigned, showcasing your flexibility and willingness to contribute to the team's success.
  • Picking up supplies from the warehouse
  • Run equipment such as the backhoe, tractor for mowing, operating a large magnet.
  • Run a variety of hand tools, drills, saws
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Ability to operate basic had tools, such as drills, saws, socket sets.
  • Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, lift 50lbs
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines and multi-line telephone
