The position is not eligible for overtime compensation Job Type Classified Department County Attorney About the Position The Civil Attorney for Behavioral Health is responsible for representing the Maricopa County Attorney's Office (MCAO) in hearings on petitions for mental health treatment, reviewing cases involving danger to others, and providing periodic legal training to crisis management workers involved in the civil commitment process.

About the Office of Civil Services The Civil Services Division of the Maricopa County Attorney's Office serves as a law firm that provides legal representation and advice to the County government, its various elected officials and agencies, as well as the dedicated employees of Maricopa County. We handle matters such as tax appeals by County taxpayers, environmental enforcement cases, public records requests, and we defend legal actions, lawsuits, and claims brought against the County.

We Require Juris Doctor or Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved law school

Two years of civil practice experience

Successful candidates must be admitted to practice law and be in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona at the time of application

Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office requires a thorough background check of all successful candidates and is authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed drugs. Testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and before placement

Job Contributions Attend hearings in court and communicate effectively

This position may require extended periods of sitting while completing paperwork, standing, and moving about while performing duties

Ability to communicate effectively and can travel to and from various county locations for court appearances, meetings, and training, utilizing personal or county-owned vehicles

Ability to move up to 20 pounds
