Job Summary

Independent of supervision in a hospital setting, as a significant part of daily duties, responsible for treatment of patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to moment basis and inducing (RVT required) and monitoring anesthesia. Under direction of the Community Practice Supervisor, provide paraveterinary technical and nursing support. Provide instruction to students in clinical skills, coordinate, schedule, and provide technical support for physical examinations, diagnostic, dental, surgical and therapeutic procedures and daily activities. Provide anesthesia technical support for a variety of treatments and diagnostic procedures. Provide instruction to students, clinicians and staff in proper techniques for restraint and handling of patients, nursing care, administering treatments and obtaining a variety of diagnostic samples. Provide equipment and facility stocking, cleaning and maintenance.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH:

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position A current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license. No Minimum Education required. Experience providing instruction and demonstrating patient restraint and handling, obtaining TPRs, collecting biological samples (blood, urine, cytology, fine needle aspirates), administering vaccines and medications by multiple routes, and performing common treatments such as nail trims and ear flushes to students and staff. Experience in small animal (canine/feline) dentistry, including periodontal procedures, dental radiography, use of dental equipment, and instruction on patient homecare. Experience in IV catheter placement and management, administration of anesthetic drugs, anesthesia induction, maintenance and recovery, and use of anesthetic delivery systems and monitoring devices including Doppler, ECG, capnograph, and pulse oximeter. Experience applying knowledge of microbiology, physiology, pharmacology, anatomy, and husbandry of dogs and cats to understand, teach, and explain written or verbal instructions. Experience utilizing medical records and computer software, including data entry and retrieval, word processing, spreadsheets, and scheduling systems. Skills to recognize and respond to patient distress, interpreting physiologic and laboratory data, providing intensive monitoring of anesthetized or critically ill patients, and performing emergency treatments such as CPR. Preferred Qualifications Experience interviewing clients to obtain patient updates, providing education on patient home care, and managing patient receiving and discharge while maintaining professional communication with clinicians, clients, staff, and students. Experience administering fluid therapy and assisting with anesthesia, including anticipating and responding to complications during anesthetic procedures. Experience with surgical asepsis, microbiology, and bacteriology to prevent contamination of patients, instruments, and sterile supplies. Knowledge of contagious and zoonotic diseases and application of infection control and disinfection practices in a hospital environment.

Work occasional overtime and various hours on short notice. This position works under Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
