The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of
Electrician
for the Water Operations Division within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Water Filtration Plant Manager, the position will serve as a skilled Journeyman responsible for installing, testing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, conduits, motors, transformers, generators, fixtures, switches, fire alarms and other related equipment used for commercial and industrial lighting, heating, and process tasks.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Diagnose, test, install, and maintain electrical equipment typically used in commercial and industrial settings including, but not limited to motors, generators, transformers, controllers, switches, fixtures, and fire alarm systems.
Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old equipment.
Identify hazards and malfunctions for repair and substitution of damaged equipment.
Design, lay out, install, and maintain electrical services in City owned buildings and facilities consistent with specifications and electrical codes.
Estimate materials, labor, and time needed for projects.
Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment and follow diagrams or drawings.
Assist with special projects as needed.
Perform other job duties as assigned.
SECONDARY ELEMENTS:
Attend training, workshops, and seminars to maintain electrician certifications, licenses, and credentials
Maintain awareness of new developments and best practices in electrical maintenance
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the operation and components of electrical systems
Knowledge in the installation methods of electrical systems and equipment
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to electrical systems and safety standards
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with department personnel.
Ability to serve as a liaison between technical and non-technical staff
Strong awareness of workplace hazards and ability to adhere to proper safety protocols
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaborating effectively as part of a team
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy objects, climbing, and working in adverse weather conditions
Ability to maintain professionalism when interacting with city personnel, particularly when responding to service inquiries and complaints
Skilled in supporting project scheduling, planning maintenance work, and upgrades
Skilled in using diagnostic tools to assess and repair electrical systems and equipment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Regular onsite attendance is required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Journeyman license issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
One (1) year of experience in the maintenance, installation and repair of electrical systems or related equipment in commercial and industrial settings.
Excellent written and verbal communication
Valid Driver's License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master Electrician license issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Three (3) years of experience in the maintenance, installation and repair of electrical systems or related equipment in commercial and industrial settings.
SALARY RANGE:
$34.56 - $42.18 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package
