SIGN PAINTER

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of
Sign Painter
for the Street Operations Division within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Traffic Maintenance, the position will be responsible for the design, fabrication, and installation of various types of signage for the City of Worcester.
Bilingual and multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Design, lay out, fabricate, and install both standard and custom signage in compliance with the United States Department of Transportation's Manual on Uniform Traffic Controls Devises for streets, highways, and City owned properties
Create digital designs for signage using graphic design software such as Flexi Sign
Develop mockups of street signs for approval by the Supervisor
Install signage in the field by mounting to various surfaces including metal, wood, glass, city buildings and vehicles, doors, and windows
SECONDARY ELEMENTS:
Attend training, workshops and seminars related to fabricator certifications and the upkeep of certifications/licenses/credentials
Maintain awareness of new developments in hardware and software technology
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the United States Department of Transportation's Manual on Uniform Traffic Controls Devises and its application to street and highway signage
Knowledge of sign fabrication techniques and materials
Skilled in the usage of graphic design software such as Flexi Sign
Ability to recognize hazardous situations and adhere to safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and traffic safety protocols
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to maintain professionalism when interacting with colleagues and members of the public
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy objects, climbing, and working in adverse weather conditions
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Two (2) years of related work experience
Computer proficiency
Valid Driver's License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates Degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, Advertising, Marketing or similar
Graphic Design Certification
One (1) year of municipal or commercial painting experience
SALARY RANGE:
$23.67 - $28.65 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
