Will you accept a traveler with 1 year experience?

L&D RN & ANM: No, 2 years minimum, 5+ preferred Postpartum No, 2+ years for traditional traveler Will you accept a first-time traveler? L&D RN: Upon review; ANM: yes, as long as they have solid Charge Nurse experience and 3 years of nursing experience. Post-partum: ?

Patient Types:

HIGH acuity: Hypertension, Mg administration, C-sections (33% c section rate), Preterm labor, Insulin drips (rarely- follow protocol), vaginal deliveries, epidurals, inductions, Robust antepartum, PROM, Multiple births, post-partum hemorrhage Transition post vaginal births and C-Section (mom and baby) Expectation is full recovery of birthing patient and baby; If there is a second set of hands to attend the birth and they will assign APGARS, but no guarantee they will be available after that to help care for the baby Up to 300 deliveries per month

Patient Ratios: Per AWHONN guidelines:

1:1 active labor 1:2 non-active laboring 1:2-3 antepartum, dependent on acuity

Required Certifications:

BLS, NRP, Intermediate FHM (AWHONN)

Skills required

L&D RN: High acuity experience: labor management and delivery of high risk OB patients, ability to triage OB patients, circulate in OR, cervical checks, reading/interpreting fetal monitoring strips; second set of hands (receive and recover normal newborn as needed) ANM: Will function as a Charge Nurse for their shift, with occasionally taking patient assignments, so Charge experience is a must, will also help manage OB ED patients, and experience with the above patient types, must also be able to connect with staff, have strong interpersonal skills, willing to educate, staff rounding, help with conflicts EPIC experience is required

Support on the Unit:

CNA – 1, transports, restocking, assists in OR, room clean up; instrument care Scrub Techs: LPN and are NRP certified Receptionist/HUC: Yes Charge nurse: Free floating Phlebotomy: Yes- RN are ultimately responsible Resource RN: Pending on staffing Break Nurse: Scheduled 2 per shift RT: Yes, 24/7. NICU RTs to attend high-risk deliveries and when the strip looks bad

Laborist: 24/7

Residents/fellows in house. Additional physicians/midwives Call schedule distributed nightly; ask charge if needed

Anesthesia

1 scheduled during days shift; shared after 1700

EMR: EPIC required IV pumps: Alaris CareFusion Medication dispensing: Pyxis Monitors: Fetal Surveillance: Centricity/Qx Epidural Pumps- CAD Solaris Panda Warmers Coviden SCD’s
