Los Altos Family YMCA General Information: Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Los Altos Family YMCA is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Program Director to provide leadership to day camp, adventure guides and youth & government. The Program Director will develop, organize and implement ACA accredited day camp programs, organize adventure guides and youth & government programming.We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a track record in financial management that sustains the Y’s nonprofit business model while maximizing growth potential.They will need to provide dynamic leadership that drives a strong commitment to achieving goals in a manner that delivers a consistent quality experience for children and parents in the programs.This Director will need to build authentic relationships in the service of enhancing individual and team performance to support the Y’s work.Serve as a branch leader that values and supports the many facets of philanthropy as an essential component in achieving the Y’s mission. We are looking for a Program Director who is growth focused while demonstrates a desire to serve others and fulfill community needs. Building rapport and relating to the members, volunteers and other staff members is critical. Our goal at the Y is to meet or exceed expectations and deliver a high-value experience for members and participants. Branch Information: The Los Altos Family YMCA is a full facility branch within the YMCA of Greater Long Beach association.The Los Altos Family YMCA camp serves the community of East, Central and Downtown Long Beach and this position will provide direct oversite of a growing 200+ day campers per week traditional summer day camp program plus 20 innovative summer specialty camps, and non school day camps.The Los Altos Family YMCA Day camp was named one of America’s Best Summer Camps by Newsweek in 2024. Essential Functions
Implement summer camp, adventure guides and youth & government programs that promote retention of existing members and engagement of new members and participants. Provide friendly and courteous service at all times. Develops, manages, and monitors assigned areas of the branch operating budget and meet or exceeds budget targets.Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities to maximize program value.Expand programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed.Including extensive day camp staff training.Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Assures accreditation with ACA Ensure the health, safety and well being of program participants and staff by appropriate supervision at all times.Understand, maintain, and ensure that staff and participants follow safety procedures. Develops camp curriculum with goals and outcomes to create a influentially positive experience for all summer camp participants Develops Adventure Guides & Youth & Government marketing plan and materials, program calendar of meetings, trains and works with volunteer leaders. Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living. Develops and maintains relationships with school administration, parent groups, vendors and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Serve in a leadership position in the Annual Support Campaign fundraiser and assists in YMCA fund raising activities. Maintains proper records/department files. Responsible for the marketing and outreach of program areas to ensure meeting and/or exceeding enrollment goals. Provide leadership to the branch “Summer Sign Up Day Event” and support all branch special events. Compiles program statistics.Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. Potential travel required for weekend Adventure Guide trips and Youth and Government conferences. Preferred Criteria For Candidates Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. YMCA Team Leader certificate required within three years from date of hire. Current FA/CPR/AED certifications strongly desired Experience & Background:Two to four years progressively responsible experience in child development and summer camp programming preferred, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.Proven track record in youth development required.Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.Minimum age requirements of 21, per licensing guidelines. Working Conditions Environmental Factors:Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. kitchen and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces.Noise level is usually moderate. Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Pay & Benefits Pay Rate: $70,500 to $75,000/year Pay Comments: In addition to a competitive salary package, the YMCA of Greater Long Beach provides a progressive work environment with great benefits, including a 12% employer-funded retirement plan after two years of service with immediate vesting, ability to make additional contributions to retirement benefits through 403(b) savings plan, high quality and affordable healthcare benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance and long term disability (medical 90% employer-paid for the employee), free use of YMCA facilities for immediate family, a generous paid time off package and the ability to work with creative, talented and diverse individuals!
