Piping & Mechanical Designer
We are seeking a Piping & Mechanical Designer to support the design and layout of piping and mechanical systems for industrial projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on both greenfield and brownfield developments, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver efficient and cost-effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting (90%)
- Create and modify piping and mechanical drawings independently, adhering to proper standards for layers, line types, and borders.
- Develop detailed installation designs for piping and mechanical equipment.
- Produce layouts for new and existing systems based on P&IDs and equipment drawings.
- Conduct detailed checks of mechanical and piping drawings.
- Perform fieldwork to verify and document existing site conditions.
- Route piping and ductwork, optimizing layouts for space and resources.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to deliver projects at the lowest total installed cost.
- Execute projects in 3D, supporting the development of CAD standards, blocks, and specs to improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, and contractors to gather design information.
- Identify missing information and minimize field change orders through thorough design practices.
Construction Support (5%)
- Provide field engineering support during construction and equipment installations.
- Assist contractors with lockout, permitting, and material expediting.
- Review installations for compliance with design documents and coordinate with maintenance and production teams.
Project Support (5%)
- Support project managers with quotes, drawings, scopes of work, and schedules.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, vendors, and contractors.
Qualifications
Required:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D or similar 3D design software (e.g., AutoPlant 3D, PDMS).
- 3+ years of industrial piping layout and design experience.
Preferred:
- Experience with Pulp & Paper industry projects is a plus but not required.
