\n\n Job Summary

: Performs highly responsible,\nprofessional work directing and coordinating all library activities. \n\n

\n\n Essential Job\nFunctions \n\n An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or\nall of the following essential duties: \n\n • Plan, organize, evaluate, and direct departmental\npolicies, programs, and operations for library services. \n\n • Plan and coordinate such activities as collection\ndevelopment, programming, outreach, and in-service training. \n\n • Supervise, train, and evaluate professional and clerical\nstaff engaged in circulation of materials, reader's advisory services,\nprogramming, public relations, and the acquisition and cataloging of materials.\n \n\n • Direct and monitor the implementation of City, Department,\nand Division regulations relating to all library personnel actions. \n\n • Prepare and maintain Library Department budget. \n\n • Select and purchase library materials, equipment, and\nbooks. \n\n • Recruit, schedule, and supervise volunteers. \n\n • Prepare reports and maintain records. \n\n • Assist the general public as needed. \n\n • Ensure safety and security of staff and patrons. \n\n • Collaborate with fellow library administrators in other\ncities and counties. \n\n • Perform other job duties as assigned. \n\n

\n\n Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's) for Position \n\n An employee in this class must have the following knowledge,\nskills, and abilities upon application: \n\n Knowledge \n\n • Principles, practices, and methods of library science,\ndevelopment, and administration. \n\n • Library materials and methods. \n\n • Community organization and public affairs. \n\n • Automated library systems. \n\n • City's functions, policies, and procedures. \n\n Skills \n\n • Strong written and oral communications and relational\nskills. \n\n • Public relations and customer service. \n\n • Follow and relay oral and written instructions, policies\nand procedures. \n\n • Operate a variety of office equipment, including computer\nterminal, printer, calculator, fax, typewriter, and copier. \n\n

\n\n Abilities \n\n • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate subordinates. \n\n • Plan, organize, and direct library programs and\nactivities. \n\n • Interpret community interests and needs, and plan for\nlibrary services. \n\n • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with\nemployees, public community groups, and other Library Administrators. \n\n • Analyze facts and exercise judgment in decision making. \n\n • Develop short- and long-range plans and to prepare\nreports. \n\n

\n\n Physical Demands \n\n The work is light work which requires exerting up 20 pounds\nof force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. The\nfollowing physical abilities are required:

Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by\nbending leg and spine. Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size,\nshape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of\nfingertips. Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise\nworking, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.\n Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers\nand palm. Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working,\nprimarily with the whole hand. Hearing 1: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal\nspeaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed\ninformation through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in\nsound. Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through\nsound logic and deductive processes. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the\nwrist, hands, and/or fingers. Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the\nspoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken\ninstructions to other workers accurately and concisely. Visual Acuity 1: Have close visual acuity to perform an\nactivity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing;\nviewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
