This opportunity supports an active Department of Defense (DoD) missile contract as a software developer working on operational flight programming. You will be a hands-on contributor to the design, development, integration, and verification of operational flight program (OFP) software, including comprehensive code documentation, process refinement, and implementation. This includes architecture planning, coding, validation, and deployment. You will actively participate in various software validation environments, such as Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) simulations, on-site integration labs, and occasional flight tests at various continental United States (CONUS) airfields and government facilities. This role demands a combination of technical knowledge of embedded software, communication skills, and innovative problem-solving to deliver reliable, mission-critical solutions. As part of the team, you will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary group, including the Chief Engineer, deputies, the OFP software lead, and cross-functional engineers from systems, hardware, and test disciplines. This position requires on-site work at our office in Fairfax, Virginia, with some hybrid flexibility.

Job Title: Software Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, and verify operational flight program (OFP) software.
  • Document code comprehensively and refine processes for implementation.
  • Engage in architecture planning, coding, validation, and deployment.
  • Participate in software validation environments, including HWIL simulations and on-site integration labs.
  • Conduct occasional flight tests at various CONUS airfields and government facilities.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including the Chief Engineer and cross-functional engineers.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in software development.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and embedded software architectures.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, RS-232, Ethernet).
  • Experience with Linux tools and terminal commands.
  • Experience with configuration management tools and issue tracking systems (e.g., GitHub).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with others.
  • Must be eligible and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret-level security clearance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Weapons Open System Architecture (WOSA) and Weapons Government Reference Architecture (GRA).
  • Proficiency with a Kanban-based development lifecycle.
  • Experience with integration and testing of complex DoD systems, ideally with weapon systems.
  • Knowledge of UAI (Universal Armament Interface) and MOATEL (Munition Open Architecture Test and Evaluation Laboratory) is a plus.

Work Environment

The company is located in Fairfax, Virginia, with a new location in Manassas for production. Hybrid work is supported, but local candidates are encouraged to work on-site. The role involves dynamic, high-stakes projects that require dedication and collaboration in a team-oriented environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Fairfax, Virginia.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $62.00/hr.
