Join to apply for the Software Engineer role at DESE Research, Inc. DESE Research, Inc. has an immediate opportunity for a talented Software Engineer in Huntsville, AL to join our team for the development of Modeling & Simulations (M&S) tools in support of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Ground Based Mid-course (GMD) program. The role involves designing, developing, and enhancing simulation framework code that integrates supplier-provided models and data sources. You will contribute to Medium Fidelity Simulation tools for the GMD customer, specifically STRATSIM and IRM (Interceptor Reference Model) products. Experience with AFSim (Advanced Framework for Simulation Integration Modeling) is preferred. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with missile defense programs and M&S best practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance simulation framework code for M&S tools.
• Integrate supplier-provided models and data sources into the simulation framework.
• Contribute to STRATSIM and IRM products and related Medium Fidelity tools.
• Collaborate with team members to plan, implement, and test software in support of the GMD program.
• Participate in sprint planning, unit tests, and documentation to ensure code quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or other relevant field
• Proficiency with C++, makefiles, JavaScript, and Twisted for GUI development
• Experience with Agile development methodologies (sprints, backlog, team collaboration)
• Familiarity with GitLab or similar source code management/tools
• Knowledge of Linux and Windows programming environments
• Understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and Object-Oriented design
• Commitment to code quality, including participation in sprint planning, unit tests, and documentation
• Active Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of STRATSIM, IRM, AFSim
• Knowledge of Fortify
• Knowledge of Python scripting
• Knowledge of Matlab/Mex
• Knowledge of containerized applications (Docker/Kubernetes)
• Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
