The School of Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track position in disabilities for appointment in August of 2026. Appointment will be made at the rank of assistant professor. Applicants must demonstrate a clear potential for, or an established record of excellence in, funded research, scholarship, and teaching, and must meet the University's requirements for appointment.
The School of Social Work is ranked among the top 10 programs of social work in the country and provides unique opportunities for interdisciplinary and community-engaged research and teaching at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. As noted in our school's new strategic plan, we have three strategic priorities, which include the domains of health, behavioral health, and leadership. UT Austin is a research-intensive public university, and our nationally and internationally renowned faculty are leaders in social work research, education, and practice. We seek to appoint colleagues who will align with our strategic emphases and add to the school's excellence in a collaborative environment.
Qualifications Candidates should hold the Ph.D. (or equivalent) in social work, or in a closely related discipline. A master's degree in social work is preferred. We seek applicants with research expertise in developmental and/or acquired disabilities across the lifespan with an emphasis on transition age and adulthood; and/or disability policy.
Successful candidates are expected to teach across our undergraduate and graduate programs, develop and implement a funded program of research, and maintain a strong record of high-impact publications. We value interdisciplinarity, a spirit of collaboration, and a commitment to service in the university, community, and social work profession.
