The Environmental Services Technician I role at Samaritan Healthcare supports a clean, sanitary, and pleasant environment essential for quality care of patients, visitors, and staff. This full-time position runs from 3:00pm to 11:30pm with rotating weekends. The Environmental Services team collaborates closely with hospital staff to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.

The Environmental Services Technician I is responsible for a variety of environmental services duties to ensure a clean, sanitary environment. The individual in this position should understand the purpose and operation of Environmental Services and be able to make decisions based on sound judgment when situations dictate.
Responsibilities
- Cleans patient rooms: washes ceilings, walls, windows, and shades. Wipes down all surfaces, dusts, mops, and wet mops. Strips, washes, and makes beds.
- Cleans in all areas of the Hospital, Professional Center, and Pioneer Medical Center.
- Picks up garbage, washes wastebaskets, relines with clean plastic liners.
- Cleans lighting fixtures, tops of doors, vents, and other high areas.
- Removes and replaces cubicle curtains, shower curtains. Washes cubicle strings and shower curtains.
- Cleans patient, public, and staff restrooms.
- Cleans ice machines. Defrosts and cleans refrigerators.
- Washes sinks, plumbing fixtures, drinking fountains, stainless steel mirrors, furniture, equipment, and casters.
- Cleans carpet stains.
- Cleans occupied and terminated isolation rooms.
- Delivers clean linen and handles soiled linen as required.
- Stays available by page, phone, or radio while on duty and responds promptly.
- Maintains professional growth through seminars, workshops, and affiliations to stay abreast of trends in the field.
- Follows safe work practices and policies to prevent injuries, including knowledge of MSDS, infection control, fire, disaster response, and safe lifting.
- Ensures compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and labor agreements.
- Interacts courteously with team members and other support groups in alignment with the organization’s values.
- Maintains professional appearance and behavior to represent the organization effectively.
- Performs additional accountabilities as required by management to meet organizational standards.
Position qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: One year of Environmental Services experience preferred.
- Skills/Competencies:
- Ability to read and write and follow oral and written instructions; alert to hazards.
- Knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment; mops, vacuums.
- Ability to use ladders.
- Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department checklists.
- Critical thinking, independent problem solving, and sound decision-making.
- Accountability, safe judgment, and ethical conduct.
- Ability to care for customers/patients across the age continuum.
Physical requirements
- Occasional climbing and crawling/kneeling.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent walking, standing, reaching, pushing/pulling, bending, stooping, crouching, twisting, and repetitive movement.
- Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, patients, families, and the public.
