West Memphis School District is hiring: Maintenance/Electrician in West Memphis

The West Memphis School District is seeking a skilled and dependable Electrician to join our facilities team. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures across district facilities, as well as diagnosing issues, implementing effective solutions, and ensuring all work complies with safety codes, standards, and district policies. Additional duties include general maintenance required for the district.
Duties and Responsibilities

• Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
• Install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
• Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
• Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment.
• Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
• Repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, dryers, etc.
• Receive and complete work orders.
• Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
• Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
• Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
• Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
• Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
• Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
• Manage assigned work orders, maintaining material and labor costs applied to each job.
• Show accountability for supplies purchased or issued.
• Meet performance standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized facility and work area.
• Perform scheduled and emergency repairs and/or maintenance as directed.
• Carry out all duties in accordance with BISD Board of Education policies and administrative regulations.
• Maintain a high personal standard in the following areas: attitude, cooperation, dependability, judgment, initiative, self-improvement, and as a role model for students.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Proven work experience as an electrician or similar role.
• Knowledge of general electrical processes and methods.
• Experience with hand and power tools.
• Physical strength and ability to perform hard manual labor for extended periods.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license may be required.
• Journeyman Electrician License-Preferred
• Master Electrician-Preferred

Additional Information

• Work Environment: District Facilities. This is a physically demanding role, often requiring work indoors/outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Reporting Structure: Reports to the Maintenance Director
• Salary: Salary is based upon candidate experience, certifications and qualifications.
• Employment Type: 260 days contract
