Position
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on finance leader responsible for building and scaling the company\'s accounting infrastructure, financial reporting, and internal controls. This role also includes foundational FP&A responsibilities, supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities in close partnership with the CFO and department heads. This position offers the unique opportunity to build robust financial systems from the ground up while working at the intersection of cutting-edge protein engineering. Responsibilities Accounting & Controls:
Lead all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and fixed assets
Develop and implement scalable accounting policies, procedures, and systems appropriate for a pre-IPO biotech company
Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements and manage external audits
Establish and maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
FP&A & Strategic Finance:
Support the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes across departments
Partner with R&D, G&A, and other functional leaders to develop and monitor operating budgets
Prepare financial models and scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making
Assist in cash flow planning and long-range financial planning
Contribute to board and investor reporting packages with financial insights and variance analysis
Cross-Functional Leadership:
Collaborate with Legal, HR, and Lab Operations to ensure financial integrity across the organization
Support fundraising activities, investor reporting, and IPO readiness
Manage and mentor a growing accounting and finance team
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, engineering; CPA required
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in biotech or life sciences
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and technical accounting
Experience in a pre-IPO or high-growth startup environment preferred
Familiarity with FP&A processes and financial modeling
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Quickbooks, NetSuite)
