Financial Reporting Manager
to join our Enterprise Divisional Accounting and Reporting team in Newport Beach, CA. Role and impact As Financial Reporting Manager, you'll drive Pacific Life's growth while advancing your career by being a part of the financial accounting function for the Institutional and Workforce Benefits Divisions. You'll execute the quarterly accounting close process, ensuring accuracy in GAAP and Statutory reporting through reconciliations, ledger reviews, disclosure preparation, and financial analysis. Additionally, you'll collaborate with FP&A teams on internal management reporting, spearhead major initiatives like product launches and finance transformation, and work closely with teams across reporting, valuation, investments, and technology. This is an INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTOR role that manages key processes and projects. What you will do
Understand and apply accounting and financial reporting principles, insurance knowledge, and general business acumen. Provide technical guidance to employees, colleagues and/or customers. Lead efforts to tackle complex problems, applying ingenuity and creativity to develop solutions. Work independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. Execute daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting and reporting including review and approval of journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis of results to ensure completeness and accuracy of account balances. Prepare various financial reporting requirements, including quarterly and annual GAAP and statutory financial statements, compliance requests, audit requests, and internal management requests. Prepare fluctuation analysis of quarterly results, including presentation of results to management on a quarterly basis and utilization of tools and technology to generate data visualizations and data driven insights. Execute initiatives for implementation of new products and enterprise transactions. Support and lead projects pertaining to finance transformation initiatives including automation of existing manual processes, business process redesign and acceleration of the accounting close process. Be recognized as an expert within the organization both within and beyond own function. Solve unique or complex problems that have a broad impact on the business. Experience and qualifications
10+ years of accounting experience. 4-year accounting degree or equivalent experience. Solid understanding of financial statement risks and controls. Strong technical, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to meet and manage responsibilities under tight time frames. Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Expertise in technical accounting and research, ensuring compliance with GAAP and STAT reporting requirements. Strong background in the insurance industry. Public accounting experience a plus. CPA certification preferred. Experience with User Acceptance Testing (UAT), system implementation, and system integration for financial applications. Proficiency in financial systems, including Oracle ERP, Oracle EPM, Appian, Essbase, Workiva (WDesk). Advanced expertise in financial statement analytics with a strong understanding of the structure, geography and components of line items to support accurate reporting and analysis. Basic understanding of investments and derivatives accounting, with the ability to analyze financial instruments and their impact on financial statements. Compensation and benefits Base Pay Range: $148,230.00 - $181,170.00. The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location.
